May 2021 May = Plant Sales From Council Bluffs to DeWitt, plant sales abound this spring! Support local Master Gardener Volunteer programs by visiting plant sales. See the full list here. Plant Sale Tips for MG Volunteers: Support pollinators by selling plants native to Iowa Avoid spreading invasive pests like Jumping Worm by not moving soil Leftover plants? Give them away to community organizations. Application Open: Online MG Training Work through the material at your own pace. The fall Master Gardener training will be offered 100 percent online. The MG Training includes 17 educational modules such as trees, pollinators, ornamentals, and compost. Each course module includes a book chapter, lecture video, online discussion board, and a quiz. July 1: Application closes Payment is due in August August 30: Course begins Iowa's Nature: Enjoy 10 New Articles From river to river, Iowa's lands and waters are teeming with diversity that inspire awe for our rich natural heritage. Iowa's Nature Series is an ambitious project that pooled the talents of 35 different authors with gifted students and recent graduates of Iowa State University's design programs to create this 10-part article series. Iowa's Nature: Plants - Iowa's plants are fascinatingly diverse. Invertebrates - There are as many as 100 species of butterflies in Iowa. Prairies - Explore prairie ecosystems and how we can work to protect this critical ecosystem.
