JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Grower will work with the location's management team to ensure that all aspects of growing processes are operating effectively. The Sr. Grower coordinates efforts aimed at optimizing all aspects of the site's product growing function throughout the entire growth process, including but not limited to, team management, plant handling, collection and analysis of environmental and production data. A big component of this position is the ability to consistently deliver on high priority projects simultaneously as well as assist all Farm Operations teams and management in a wide range of different activities. This position reports to General Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the environmental climate control, overseeing agriculture equipment and instruments, such as heating systems, humidity controls, irrigation systems, fertilizer units, water storage tanks, electrical and computer systems and controls
  • Utilizes and integrates new and existing growing technology
  • Oversees crop production in assigned areas
  • Analyzes insect and disease conditions and implements appropriate control measures
  • Develops crop fertilization plan and oversees fertilization of crops by Growers and Grower Assistants
  • Maintains pesticide and irrigation records up to date
  • Researches and compiles safety controls procedures
  • Performs fertilizers calculations
  • Supervises and directs the assigned Assistant Growers and Growers
  • Determines biological orders based on scouting & reports
  • Works closely with the Site General Manager to achieve maximum growth & crop production
  • Responsible for developing seeding plan with the site General Manager
  • Assists the General Manager with budget development and expense allocation
  • Reports any departmental discrepancies or problems to the site General Manager
  • Monitors production at off-site facility Leads ongoing growth activities and communicates effectively with all management
  • Provides technical expertise to Greenhouse personnel
  • Assists in scheduling of planting, fertilization, and harvesting
  • Monitors crops for optimal growth
  • Ensures safety as number one priority and conducts daily self-checks of all assigned areas as also, promotes safety with actions and corrects unsafe findings immediately
  • Adheres to all safety and food safety guidelines
  • Reports and is accountable for notifying the site General Manager of observed safety concerns.
  • Maintains a clean working environment
  • Leads and motivates people

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, foreign equivalent or related field required
  • 7 Years of growing experience in greenhouse and irrigation systems.
  • Working knowledge of quality systems, food safety programs, GMPs, food defense, and HACCP
  • Ability to identify insects and plant diseases
  • Highly proficient in knowledge of fertilization calculations

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bi-lingual English & Spanish preferred
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record

Your tasks and responsibilities

Your role

You manage seeds processing operations, aimed at cleaning, sorting and testing seeds. You handle customer orders from packing to shipping seeds around the world. Duties & Responsibilities:

A)   Supply Chain operations:

  • Plan, organize and execute the work to ensure the expected service level;
  • Ensure day to day continuous improvement via a proper mindset and structured approach and appropriate daily contact with other key functions (sales, breeding, seed production) ;
  • Report other departments  by providing full visibility on activity status.
  • Manage the maintenance of seeds processing and storage equipment;
  • Stay up to date with latest seed processing best practices and technologies by maintaining effective collaboration with the Seed Technology companies and teams across the industry.
  • Take initiative to deploy appropriate programs to further improve:
    • Quality of the seeds (GSPP, Germination, purity, etc.) by setting up a quality road map;
    • Delivery to customer by securing high service level (leadtime and agreed conditions);
    • Stock management to secure appropriate seeds quality.

 

B)   Customer Service operations:

  • Be the first point of customer contact for general inquiries about product availability and deliveries;
  • Be in close contact with the commercial team to build and maintain a strong business relationship with our customers by providing accurate service;
  • Deliver excellent customer service which will promote the loyalty of our customers;
  • Report to the Customer Service Supervisor;
  • Traveling  incidentally.

Your role

What Are we Growing:

 

Triangle Farms , a Coloured Capsicum, Cucumber and Tomato grower, packer and shipper located in Telangana, India. Our business is growing rapidly, and we are increasing our operations for this season and need additional team members.

 

What will I contribute:

The Grower role is instrumental in ensuring optimal health and production of our vine crops. You'll be involved in determining budgets and crop forecasts, develop strategies to ensure we continue to produce first grade produce, and develop a team of people who want to learn from you.

Here's what you'll be doing

  1. Guide the growing process for assigned crops and trials including propagation, transplanting, irrigation, fertilizer, plant growth regulator application, plant maintenance, insect and disease management, and crop scheduling
  2. Proactively monitor the plants to early detect deviations and diseases (fungi, insects, viruses, bacteria, stretched growth etc.) using IPM (Integrated Pest Management) techniques
  3. Reach optimal crop conditions through consultation with the Crop Manager, with a focus on the technical cultivation
  4. Utilize Internal tools to create daily work schedules based on tasks 
  5. Setting guidelines on the required climate control (temperature, humidity, etc) and the frequency of watering, fertilization, and crop protection strategy
  6. Using a climate computer to create an optimal environment for the plants (temperature, humidity, light, etc) A correct choice based on knowledge of cultivation, cultivation conditions and growing phase has an impact on the result
  7. Create a weekly work schedule based on the information of the Leaders, Planners, Breeders and Crop Specialists, so that this work can be performed in a quick and efficient manner
  8. Guiding the process leaders and employees in the specific department in cultivation activities, so that the work is carried out in a proper technical way
  9. Ensure all HSE and phytosanitary protocols are followed and enforced
  10. Make suggestions on renewal (quality) improvements, hygiene, efficiency (LEAN) and capacity adjustment (equipment, manpower) for production of crops
  11. Other duties that may arise 

 

What do I need for the role?

We're looking for someone with:

  1. Minimum 4 years' experience in a similar role, with significant experience in protected cropping, climate, IPM (Integrated Pest Management) and fertigation management for soilless cocopeat media growing.

UFG - also known as "United Flower Growers" is Canada's leading flower grower co-operative and operates the largest Dutch auction in North America.

The Job

  • Work with the operations team to help execute live auctions; support electronic grower and buyer information technology; days are mixed between warehouse and office setting.
  • Help manage diverse mechanical and computer systems controlling several systems and processes.
  • Facilities management; trouble shoot and fix problems in a time sensitive environment.
  • Lead and problem solve with a team of between 80 - 100 employees.

Qualifications

  • Considerations to new entrants to the operations management profession or those wanting new challenges.
  • Post-secondary education including technology or computer systems an asset.
  • Tech literate - with the ability to contribute to innovation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize workloads.

The Company

At the headquarters in Italy, intense work is currently being carried out on the construction of a very modern greenhouse complex. The Role

This is a new position within the company and with the cultivation of young plants on rock wool buyers will be offered new opportunities. The wanted candidate works from the head office in Italy and focuses on the cultivation of young plants on stone wool (Rockwool). In addition, he or she will support production locations worldwide with the introduction and further roll-out of this cultivation medium. This means a lot of travel and visits to support and advise the local production staff, including the chief responsible on site, on the successful introduction and use of stone wool. The wanted candidate will work approximately 70% of his or her time at the permanent location in central Italy and the other 30% will be on the road to the various production locations worldwide.

Job Requirements

The wanted candidate is aware of the large-scale production of grafted vegetable plants. The cultivation on stone wool holds no secrets for him or her. Extensive experience and knowledge in the field of cultivation and stone wool is required for this position. He or she also has no problem with sometimes different cultures and backgrounds, adapts quickly and successfully and ensures that the further roll-out of stone wool proceeds successfully and as planned. Part of this position is regular visits to relevant and interesting trade fairs and symposiums.

In addition, he or she keeps abreast of new developments, techniques and insights that may be important or interesting for their own company or position. An excellent command of English is required for this internationally oriented work. Given the location of some production locations, mastery of Spanish in particular is a clear advantage. Fluency in Italian can also be useful.

A responsible and versatile position at a prominent and very successful company based in central Italy awaits the right candidate.
